Investigation of the Pull-Out Behaviour of Metal Threaded Inserts in Thermoplastic Fused-Layer Modelling (FLM) Components

To provide detachable, secure and long-term stable joints in fused-layer modelling (FLM) components or assemblies, metal threaded inserts are widely used as extrinsic interfaces. However, the load-bearing capacity of such is influenced by inhomogeneous, anisotropic material structure FLM components. This work evaluates influence joining zone design printing process parameters on achievable joint properties. Therefore, we printed thermoplastic test specimens with varying for infill density, wall thickness, layer height nozzle temperature. Subsequently, were warm-embedded into investigated quasi-static pull-out tests. The results show that density has largest impact strength should be 70% higher. Furthermore, an analysis different thicknesses around pre hole shows a minimum value 2.4 mm required selected insert geometry to achieve high force. Increasing thickness beyond this does not significantly affect strength. improved base detailed understanding interface integration well further investigations regarding materials load types.
